💤 Dream Check-in
Feb. 9th, 2026 11:38 pm6th:
Fragment: I was standing somewhere deleting 'dream markers'. I get the feeling this was inspired by Arknights: Endfield somehow lol the never-ending placing and removing things in that game~
7th:
Fragment: I remembered that we had played a card game a long time ago and I was owed money from betting, but when I counted my money I realized it wasn't all there and went to my dad for it.
GORE ->
Fragment: I was looking at my tongue in a mirror and a chunk of it was loose and bloody. I tried to pull it off but it was hanging by a thread. I begged for it to be removed but was rejected(?). Well that's a new stress dream type.
<-
8th:
Fragment: A tub full of stuff was falling off the top of a shelf (maybe the one in my room) as I watched from below.
Fragment: Mom gave me a one day warning that we were moving out so I had to rush to pack and for some reason mom and dad were helping me. I remember grabbing the easiest things and taking them out on the porch (it looked like the one from an old house we lived in). One thing was a 6 pack of Pepsi bottles.
Back in my room, the parents were deleting 'the most used radio stations' from a stereo 'because they would get deleted in the move anyway', and I thought 'then why bother deleting them?'. One of the stations had voice clips of my voice saying random words/noises. The most used station was 'anime music'.
Fragment: I was on YouTube going through a singer's catalogue, I remember the oldest album had a blue cover with a pattern over it and the title.

Daily Happiness
Feb. 9th, 2026 07:34 pm2. Since the dentist appointment was a good excuse and I didn't really have a pressing reason to go into the office, I just worked from home today. I think I'll have to go in every day the rest of the week, so it was nice to stay home today.

A bond between a dad and a kitten he never wanted is the strongest bond in the world.
If you think the cat distribution system is kind to certain hoomans, you would be absolutely… correct. Some people wait years until they are blessed by a cat from the distribution system, while others find themselves in a possesion of a kitty every other week.
However, it seems there is a certain selection of people who are always on the cat distribution system radar, and those people are Dads. We all know at least one duo of a dad and a cat, and the origins of their love stories all sound similar: someone in the family finds a kitten, brings the sweet baby in need home, Dad says no, the cat stays anyway, Dad is grumpy about it for a few days while the kitten is determined to win Dad's heart, until the kitten eventually succeeds.
All these households then have what we call the "Classic Dad-Cat Duo", an inseparable bond between a dad and a cat he swore he would never love. This duo does everything together: They hang out, share hobbies and interests, eat, and of course, nap. The love between the two is something cosmic, one that even the most magical fairytales can't compete with.
Is that the case in the story below? We will let you be the judges of that…

Habit Tracking: Week 06 (February 01 - February 07)
Feb. 9th, 2026 07:00 pm
This weird creature was a sticker from Abi Stevens Art. I picked it this week for the vibes. I still feel kind of weird and off, like a bizarre and monstrous serpent bird, so that seemed appropriate.
This week was the final stretch of recovery and my return to work. While I still feel like it wasn't quite enough time, I have been feeling far better than I did the previous week. I did have a few reasonably productive days at home, where I started to get caught up on some of what I'd missed. The week itself was difficult, though. The news on Wednesday about my friend Mark passing was... heartbreaking. I still just don't feel like he can be gone.
Goals for the week:
- I did finally catch up on DW
- I wrote up my January book reviews
- I finished reading We're Here
- I took more walks
- I returned to work
- I did not work on my reading page
- I did my
getyourwordsout check in: 12542 words - I did my tracker grids for the next month
- We paid rent
- I started reading Hell Bent
Tracked habits:
- Work - 1.5/7 - I returned for a half day on Friday, resuming my regular schedule on Saturday
- Household Maintenance - 5/7
- Physical Activity - 7/7
- Wrote 500/1000+ Words - 0/7
- Non-fiction Writing - 6/7 - three days of over 500 words, three days of over 1000
- Meta Work - 4/7
- Personal Writing - 6/7
- Other Creative Things - 0/7
- Reading - 6/7 - I finished reading We're Here and started Hell Bent, plus read a small bit of my ebook side-read; Alex and I finished The Sun Dog and started The Luminous Dead
- Attention to Media - 7/7 - Sunday had various background stuff, watched some reviews later; Monday had youtube in the background, then later watched agility qualifiers for the Westminster dog show; Tuesday Alex and I went to see Iron Lung (enjoyed it!) and later watched more dog show stuff; Wednesday watched more dog show stuff and some video game videos; Thursday was more game videos and later some of the Olympic snowboard qualifiers; Friday watched a paranormal video, a review, and some game videos; Saturday had news in the background.
- Video Games - 0/7
- Social Interaction - 5/7
Total words written: 8105, all non-fiction; some about the stresses of paperwork, some about my friend's passing, some on book reviews
March Meta Matters Challenge Returning!
Feb. 9th, 2026 08:02 pmHowever speaking of communities,
2) We were watching Colbert and his wife Evie was on. For Valentine's Day they read through her 12 year old writings about what she considered the perfect guy for her. Among her notes was that he should be "all man." This made my partner remember an event in hockey where a player was placed in the penalty box because his team had too many players on the ice. The TV caption however, as they showed him sitting there was "Too much man." I found this hilarious.
3) I daresay the article Stop Meeting Students Where They Are is relevant to various readers here. They key to me is that (a) younger online users are starting to intentionally reduce their time there, and ( Read more... )
4) Love how the same people scolding audiences for preferring to watch movies at home, don't go to the cinema even when it's free. "The Academy has long hosted screenings of Oscar-hopefuls for its members throughout the year in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, New York and London, and then again after the announcement of the Oscar nominations.
But in recent years — particularly over the seven years since the Academy introduced its members-only streaming service, the Academy Screening Room, through which members can watch films at home — attendance at all of these screenings has markedly declined.... “an average of five members attended these screenings in the last two years,” ...which reportedly cost the organization thousands of dollars a pop. So the Academy decided to save resources by eliminating them altogether." Aside from the Academy members can view movies on the big screen at the many showings hosted by the nominating studios. They just choose not to, just like most other viewers.
5) We finished watching Bodkin, which I will agree was an interesting view, though I had trouble getting into it, primarily because I was not fond of any of the main characters. A few episodes in the mystery was developing and I was fairly satisfied with how that unfolded and its complexity.
My big problem was that Netflix had labeled this "Comedy." ( Read more... )

Wound care exposing a pregnancy.
Feb. 9th, 2026 05:51 pmDetails:
I have a story I'm currently working on set in a modern type world, and a plot point where one of the two main characters is attacked by a pack of street dogs and gets some minor scratch and bite injuries. I'm thinking just a few stitches at most. I can guess they'll need "just in case" antibiotics and rabies shots because of the bites, but would common care involve any tests that would expose an early pregnancy?
Goals:
I'm trying to keep the pregnancy a surprise for the other main character later in the story, so a "some hospitals would do these tests but some wouldn't" could be ruled that this time it wasn't done. But if it's very common to do certain blood or other tests that would easily reveal a pregnancy, that's a problem. And having the other main character who's acting as their savior/caregiver in this scenario decide not to get them treatment wouldn't be in character or suit his arc in the story, even with minor wounds that in theory could be treated at home.
Do I need to change details of the attack, or depict this medical team as negligent? Or is the stealth of this pregnancy safe?
Day 9: Fic - Stargate SG-1 - Sam Carter
Feb. 9th, 2026 09:00 pmTitle: Getting back to the basics
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Character: Sam Carter (plus Cassie is briefly here too)
Rating: G
Length: 100 words
Summary: Sam's favorite part of her job is the science
Link: here on ao3 or you can read it under the cut below

(bonus silly author's note)
In my head, there was backstory about how Cassie asked Sam for homework help because Janet was busy treating SG-3 who came back from offworld with a mysterious blue rash.
But obviously I could not fit that in the drabble 😂

Feb. 9th, 2026 08:37 pmThe problem with platform migration, of course, is that it's not uniform - some people stay, some people leave. Communities get broken up and new ones form but it's not the same. I'm still on tumblr after the big porn ban, even though a lot of people predicted the total collapse because of it. Thank goodness for AO3 and Dreamwidth for having our backs - journaling is different from images and GIFs and microblogging and chat, but at least I have somewhere that can serve as a "home base" in the event of a crisis or collapse.
Discord is probably going to get worse in the long run - the company is going public soon, and they keep trying to push stuff on the userbase that the userbase doesn't want. Their bet is that if they can weather the initial complaints, most people will keep using it anyway, but I think that's a big gamble - I stopped using Skype completely when they told me I had to give them my credit card number, and a photo ID or face scan is a thousand times worse. Enough alternate services exist that they're not unique, and if their primary revenue source are bonus icons and perks, hemorraghing users is going to eat into their profits pretty quickly.
I've seen this cycle happen enough times before that I just feel jaded and cynical and sad about the whole thing. There are a lot of things I genuinely don't like about server-based chat as a major fandom hub - I prefer forums, which are open, searchable, and allow for lurking and archiving - but it sucks whenever a platform collapses. This particular round is even worse because of the age-gating that is becoming increasingly common and I wish we could just stop doing it.
