Meg has something called cardiomyopathy. Don't know much other than that. Doc was less than helpful in explaining what's going on.

Staying at a hotel tonight and driving back home tomorrow.

Hi. He didn't discuss treatment options with me, but he wants her to find a regular pediatric cardiologist closer to where we live.

I went to Google Health and found this explanation. It sounds like an umbrella term for several different kinds of heart issues. There's a lot of subcategories, all of which are explained. It's a kind of chronic illness that sounds like it's related to congestive heart failure--which many people live with for a long time, in spite of the name. (Not a doctor, just reading!)

Depends on what kind. That's too bad that the Doc didn't explain anything to you. Unfortunately, you'll most likely have to wait until you get an appt with the other specialist. OTOH, her regular pedi should be sent a letter at some point. You cna ask her/him.

Oh no! And booo! for that doctor! It's their damn duty to explain what their diagnosis actually means for the patient! I hope you can find a local doctor that will be more helpful.

The doctor needs to be turfed until he learns how to provide appropriate information to patients, FFS.

Anyway, as a few people have said, this is definitely something which doesn't warrant an immediate panicked response, so I will simply say that you and Meg will be in my thoughts and I hope that you can connect with a good pedes cardio doc ASAP so that you can have peace of mind.

I'm sorry about the bad news, and the vagueness and uncertainty and unhelpful doctor.

I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but I looked it up on Wikipedia and they had a section about famous people with cardiomyopathy that included Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys & Slash from Guns'N'Roses.
