ugh

First thing this morning, my ex called to say he's still sick and can't bring Zach.

So I was all sad about not seeing my son for his holiday break.

Now, it looks like my ex is going to bring him, but on Monday, and he's going to drive the whole way here BUT I have to pay for his gas AND a hotel for him to stay in. Because the drive is so long. I can't really afford it, but it's the only way to see my son.

My PayPal address is anthony.melissa AT rocketmail DOT com. I don't expect your help, but I do need a bit now. So if you can help and want to, please do.

One more year and Zach will be an adult and you can arrange quality time with him without your ex being entitled to interfere. So close!

I just skipped back in your journal a little to catch up on your personal news and was entertained by your recent post about Zach's political philosophy journey, lol. Sounds like he's got some eye-rolly and stereotypical ideas for an intellectual teenage boy but I'm heartened by the fact that he seems to be good at having a productive conversation about the topic with people who disagree with him. His comment that he respects how you stick to your views was adorable. I think that's also how you'll get through to him before he gets warped into one of those toxic idiots; he clearly looks up to you and respects you and if he can easily answer the question "what would Mom say?" then that will be a good compass for him as he keeps exploring these ideas and learning more about what's behind them. <3

ALSO (hi, lawyer here, lol) since you are apparently looking for some nice counterpoints for Zach to think about and replace all the space The Fountainhead is probably now taking up in his brain, a solid grounding in the concept of the "rule of law" will help him contextualize all these different ideas. I'm sure you'd also find it interesting to learn more about, since it's the foundation of our democratic systems and all. It also has a very important link to the idea of access to justice, which is something that lawyers and legal academics are thinking about more and more these days. Here's a link with a good informational launchpad about the rule of law: https://worldjusticeproject.org/about-us/overview/what-rule-law.

If he takes the bait and wants to learn more then for sure aim him at the nearest college library resource to start reading some articles, but also feel free to hit me up and I'll dig through my collection of legal navel-gazing reading and see what else I've got for him/you to read on the subject. I'm also fine with questions about it and I do enjoy having discussions on these ideas, so don't be shy haha.
