Hour 40, no cigarettes.

It's not as hard as I thought, although the cravings themselves are a nuisance. They pass pretty quickly, though. It's hard to focus on anything without thinking about cigarettes. This will pass, I'm sure. Eventually.

Drinking plenty of water is helping. Thank you to everyone who is encouraging me and keeping me going. ♥

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! You can do this, I know it! And the cravings do get easier, I promise.

You are going great so far. You can do this.

Toothpicks were my saviour when I quit. To this day (four plus years without one), I will pop a toothpick between my lips when the cravings get that distracting.

Go you! ♥

This is also a good solution!

I know how hard it is, honey, but it CAN be done! I'm proud of you. Just know the hard stuff passes -- I quit five and a half years ago, and haven't had a puff since. If I can do it, anybody can!

The worst part for me was not being able to sit still. I was like a kid with ADD for about a week. That was the hardest part. But the most important thing is to change the little behaviors that you associate with smoking -- like, pop a piece of gum in your mouth when you get in the car. Drink tea instead of coffee for a while, stuff like that.

And exercise. I did yoga and it helped me relax and not gain a huge amount of weight (from that, anyway!)

Heh. Sorry, I just remember how tough it was and I want to share my wisdom. I have a ticker on my profile here that shows all the cigarettes I haven't smoked and money I haven't spent -- that helps too!

I look at how much they cost now, and it BOGGLES MY MIND. When I quit, they were just inching up to $5 a pack in new york. Now they're even more. You're doing your body, the environment, AND your wallet a solid!

Use your grumpy feelings to get things done. Call people you need to do things for you, and tell them you just quit smoking. RARR!

I'm just basing this on what my dad told me he did when he quit smoking. (Which is why my dad is still around to tell the story, I think.)

This would be good even if you were the only one quitting, because you have a lot of life ahead of you that shouldn't be spent ill.

Even my father-in-law, who did eventually die of smoking-related cancer, bought himself 15 years of remission by quitting smoking when it was first diagnosed. He did some damned cool things in those years. And won't it be nice to have all the money you spent on cigarettes in your pocket for other stuff?

Well done! Keep on going :-)
