Challenge #2: Pets of Fandom
Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!
Gotta say my favorite 'pet' from my fandoms is Diefenbaker from Due South. But I'm gonna go with a more obscure one and then some from my own stories, instead.
Prada is Lydia Martin's canon dog from Teen Wolf. He's a six-pound black and white Papillon. He was onscreen once (in season 2's Frenemy) and then mentioned a couple more times later on.
I love animals, but I don't write original pets too often. I have in the past, though. Let's see if I can remember...
There's Murphy, an Irish wolfhound, in my story Big Sky (Teen Wolf, Steterek, Explicit)
There's also Peter's cat, Desmond, in my story The Catsitter (Teen Wolf, pre-Steter, General)
There's also a boa in a story I can't remember right now. Stiles Stilinski had a boa constrictor pre-canon as a child, but it's only mentioned once, I think. I used that tidbit in a kidfic, but I don't remember which one right now, so you don't get a little of that one.
WARNING: incoming dead pet talk
My own dearly-loved dog passed away about 2 years ago, and I miss her tremendously. Greta was 15 and a very good girl. ETA: named after a singer I enjoyed once upon a time, Greta Salpeter

And I've had one cat in my adult life, and she was an angel. Her name was Jasmine. She passed away MANY years ago, but she's always in my heart. ETA: she was named after a character in Angel the Series.

There's Murphy, an Irish wolfhound, in my story Big Sky (Teen Wolf, Steterek, Explicit)
From the back, Derek asks, "Want to pick up Murphy so we don't have to do it later?"
"Who's Murphy?" Stiles asks, suddenly anxious. He's okay with sharing space with the men he knows, but he definitely doesn't think he'll do well around a stranger.
Thankfully, Peter quickly explains that Murphy is an Irish wolfhound. Stiles wracks his brain for info on the breed, but all he can think of is, "Hey, don't they hunt wolves?"
Derek laughs. "Murphy's too lazy to hunt. That would mean getting up from the couch."
Stiles takes that in. He's never thought of Peter or Derek as dog owners. He says as much.
"He was a rescue," Peter says. "He needed surgery and his previous owner didn't have the money or inclination for it."
Derek makes a soft sound of disgust. "She didn't think Murphy was worth it. She could afford it." Then he goes on to explain. "Irish wolfhounds don't have a long life expectancy, and Murphy's already five."
"But you guys got him the surgery?" Stiles asks.
"He was in a lot of pain," Peter said. "It was that or let him be put down."
Stiles nods, taking that in. "What kind of surgery?"
"Hip replacement," Derek says. "He had severe dysplasia."
"Do you think he'll like me?" Stiles asks. Both Derek and Peter laugh at that.
"He loves people," Peter assures him. "You're worried now, but wait 'til you can't get a hundred and thirty-pound dog off your lap."
Stiles half-chokes on his laughter. "So… a big dog, then."
"Oh, he's huge," Derek says with a grin.
"And gassy," Peter mutters.
There's also Peter's cat, Desmond, in my story The Catsitter (Teen Wolf, pre-Steter, General)
Stiles is lying on Peter’s sofa, in Peter’s apartment, under one of Peter’s comfy throws. He’s reading a grimoire from Peter’s bookshelves while Desmond, Peter’s orange tabby, lounges in the space between Stiles’s chest and his arm.
He’s catsitting, not waiting for Peter to get back from his trip. That he keeps looking at the clock on the wall has nothing to do with when Peter is supposed to get in. It’s just sensible to be aware of the time.
He’s hungry, though. It’s getting later and he might as well order something in. Since Peter is coming home, it might be considerate to order two portions rather than just the one. And Peter likes Donatello’s just as much as Stiles does, so he can’t complain much.
Stiles quickly orders on his phone and then goes back to reading about ley lines and petting Desmond.
Peter comes in about twenty minutes later. He smiles with his eyes when he sees Stiles, but snarks, “Oh, don’t get up to help with these boxes. I’ve got it.”
Stiles looks Peter over, taking in the slightly disheveled clothes. “You’ve got it, I think. You’re the one with super strength. Meanwhile, I’m trapped here. Can’t move.” He gestures to where Desmond is lazing on him.
There's also a boa in a story I can't remember right now. Stiles Stilinski had a boa constrictor pre-canon as a child, but it's only mentioned once, I think. I used that tidbit in a kidfic, but I don't remember which one right now, so you don't get a little of that one.

Thanks for sharing snippets from your fics! I love giving my characters pets when I can - it makes them more relatable and shows off a different side. Murphy's backstory was so good! And so real, unfortunately.
Sorry for the loss of your furbabies. ::hugs:: We miss them no matter how long they're gone.
