this started out as a simple squee post but then it got rambly for pretty much no reason at all
okay so one of these days I will stop talking about Leverage but that's not gonna be anytime soon.
there is an episode... I haven't watched it yet, but I was looking around Tumblr and I got um, spoiled for this episode and THE JOB IS TO STEAL A POTATO. I AM SERIOUS. A POTATO. AND THE NAME OF THE EP IS "THE HOT POTATO JOB". <-- no really, it's a ridiculous spoiler and I've only got it under the cut because some people. but also because discovering this particular thing should happen and I kinda want you to click that cut tag just to read this spoiler so you can understand how AMAZINGLY RIDICULOUS this show is.
the episode in question is s4e5.
I do not understand why more people didn't watch this show. Okay, so I was talking to
majoline about it and she was like 'TNT made this show seem bad! the ads for it kinda sucked!' and she is so so right because I remember seeing ads for this show and even knowing that Christian Kane was in it did not sell me on it because the promos for it did not actually tell me what I actually needed to know.
It's like when I got into bandom. No one really told me what dorks the boys were. I had to discover it on my own because my flist wasn't telling me. They were talking about, like, stagegay or whatever. There were pictures of Gerard Way looking like a murderous freaky weirdo instead of, you know, whatever... idk. But it turned out that Gerard was a big geek who talked earnestly about saving lives and Frank Iero had this giggle thing going on and Mikeyway had bird nest hair and ... stuff. You know? (although everyone was right about Ray's thighs…)
Oh, so. I feel like this is a thing I should do now. Explain what hooked me into my fandoms.
With BtVS, the Buffy/Angel relationship got me into the canon but it was the potential Buffy/Spike that got me into fandom. I remember when Spike was suddenly my favorite character and it kind of happened out of nowhere. I honestly really loved Angel in the beginning but then when Spike came on the scene and Angel lost his soul, I was so totally torn. In a way, the Angelus persona intrigued the hell out of me, and I was on the edge of my seat by the end of season 2, but Spike was just so unique. He had no soul but he was so entirely human. He loved Drusilla so much, but he was so obsessive and … wow, when things got twisty and he turned his obsession to Buffy I just could not wait to see what happened next.
And there was this totally illogical thing going on with the theory of souls in the Buffyverse. I was among the Spike fans who wanted Spike to do the redemption thing soul-free. And it was like TPTB looked out at this particular point of view and said 'oh, hey, let's do something TOTALLY HORRIFYING' and Seeing Red happened and… yeah. Heh.
Oh, wait, I was supposed to be talking about what got me into a fandom, not what made me sour on it.
Erm. SGA! They had me from Rising because it was such a totally compelling premise. The show had some serious problems but I kept remembering the way Atlantis lit up as John's boots hit the stairs and it was just glorious when the city rose from the ocean with its gorgeous Ancient spires and I just loved John so much. Later I loved Rodney, but John Sheppard was my first love in that 'verse.
Due South! It was sweet and nice and all, and I liked Fraser a lot, but it wasn't until I saw him get his heart absolutely squashed and crushed and squeezed and chopped into mincemeat during Victoria's Secret pt 1& 2 that I got invested. And then there was no turning back. Plus, I found myself totally forgiving the show for giving us North as the first ep of S2 after the end of S1, you know? So much so that North is still my favorite episode, even after Fraser/RayK became my Due South pairing of choice.
Harry Potter sucked me in because the 'verse was just so rich. Rowling might not be a great weaver of prose, but she sure can build a world you want to live in and explore for years and years. Also, Snape. He was such a bitter, petty, selfish man but I fell in love with him anyway.
Steve Rogers is my Marvel boyfriend and I just want him to fall in love with Bucky and/or Tony over and over again in as many different scenarios as possible. With the majority of my fandoms I feed on the angst or moral grayness of the characters but with MCU I just get hearts in my eyes over Steve. Because the serum thing didn't make him a hero. Because when he was a skinny scrawny sickly little dude he was this amazing person and … YOU KNOW! And then he was Cap and stuff happened and yeah, the angst came in because of death and suddenly waking up in the future and I do love that and all, but it's not THE THING.
Sherlock I loved because of reasons but right now I am unsure so I don't want to discuss it.
With Teen Wolf, the angst hooked me again because DEREK HALE. But then Teen Wolf started doing hinky things for seemingly no other reason than to add to Derek's angst, plus inventing even more tragic backstory (as if the poor boy didn't have enough manpain, I mean, SERIOUSLY) that is also hinky (and if you hadn't caught on, I'm using hinky where I should be saying problematic) and now I just don't trust it and I don't even know if I want to keep watching. :(
I had a point in there I think. But I lost it somewhere along the way.

OMG when the city surfaced it was the prettiest thing to see! I confess, I learned to love John for Rodney, but once that took place I was hooked. (Is a plan conceived by a character named John ever a good plan?)
North is in my top five favourite episodes of Due South. I love that episode so much.

You didn't answer when I asked about IMing! It's okay if you don't want to, I don't get offended by folks who avoid chatting or anything! But if you do want to chat sometime, my gtalk is beingagreenmother. :D?

I would get on AIM but it honestly hates me no matter what I do. it crashes my computer every time I use it, and my computer crashes enough as it is. :\
