weight stuff

I got on the scale yesterday and it said I've lost weight. Not just any weight, but twenty pounds. Now, to put that in perspective, I have gained fifty ever since being put on Abilify. The gain was a combination of the meds and unhealthy eating.

But now I've lost 20 of that, if I'm to trust my scale. Not entirely healthily, either. I only eat one meal a day and I smoke and drink coffee (big appetite suppressors) most of the day. I'm not snacking the way I was when I gained all that weight, but I'm not really eating healthily, either. I don't exercise. I want to join a gym, at least, or take walks, but the agoraphobia makes that a little iffy.

I feel GOOD, though. I don't know. I'm happy to have lost the weight and look forward to losing more, if this keeps up. I know I should be focused more on my health, but I just can't bring myself to care. It's not depression talking either, I just ... don't care that much. :\

I'm not agoraphobic but hate going anywhere where there's lots of people, so I have a fair amount of knowledge about exercise stuff you can do at home. Would suggestions/info be of any interest?

Okay, a lot depends on what you're interested in and where you're starting from, but just off the top of my head:

Yoga is very easy to do at home -- it turns out that iTunes has a wealth of free yoga podcasts, including some awesome video ones from Yoga Journal, so you can see what you're supposed to be doing. The mod of [community profile] sun_salutation has been putting up a series of "getting started" posts for beginners there, and it's a great place to ask questions.

Then strength training is awesome and very good for you; you can get a lot done with a really cheap dumbell set or some resistance bands or a single kettlebell, or even just with bodyweight exercises. Stumptuous has some excellent resources, including good ones for beginners. There isn't a strength training comm on DW yet, but various people are threatening to start one *g*.

But seriously, just let me know what you're interested in or ask me stuff, and I will do what I can to be useful: I love chatting about this stuff.

I'm currently putting together a big post of online yoga videos specifically for beginners, so I'll try to get that done and posted in [community profile] sun_salutation a.s.a.p. for you :).

ETA: I've avoided all forms of physical activity other than walking and occasional yoga for at least twenty years, after being Bad-At-Sports Girl at school, so it's been a very belated discovery for me that there are forms of physical activity that I can do and enjoy and be good at. So I tend to get overenthusiastic and want to rush round and tell everyone about it *g*.

I've been working on this post on and off for ages, so thank you for giving me the nudge I needed to get it done :).
