What is it with fandom and attention whores? Does everyone have ADD these days or does fandom draw in an incredibly large amount of people with autistic traits? I seriously wonder whether they don't give a damn that they're pushing their own selfish little problems onto others or actually cannot perceive their self-absorption at all. That's a basic trait of autism.

...I lost my cool. a little. I don't think I'm out of line, though.

Yeah, but I think as a result she didn't understand you. She doesn't seem to be too perceptive. I don't think she was being deliberately obtuse, I think she's actually, you know, obtuse. Perhaps I give her too much credit, but I would guess she did this by accident out of a poor facility with words and now is going to stick to her guns because you're so meeeeeeean.

I mean, a poor facility with words coupled with a lack of understanding of autism and ADD and lots of unexamined biases toward people with disabilities. The poor facility part is just to explain why she didn't get that comparing people with disabilities to people whose behavior you are criticizing means you're criticizing the people with disabilities. Faulty--logical reasoning? Use of analogy? Something like that.

Did you know sometimes I get hung up on figuring out how people think? I have a coworker whose linguistic glitches were a source of fascination, like, "how did she get there?"

...and in this case I don't think it makes a difference. It's not making a mistake that's a problem, it's being an asshole after it's pointed out.
