It stands for Mo Dao Zu Shi which is the name of the animated series of the Untamed. So people will say both if they mean The whole Untamed universe (there's also a comic/manga I think)? I guess? My friend kept posting fics with both MDZS and The Untamed listed, and I thought she was writing crossovers, but nope. lol

EDIT: I was wrong. okay there's a novel that it started with, that's called Mo Dao Zu Shi - and then there's also an animated thing, a manga, and the live action show. but I think (now) that MDZS means the novel.

mdzs basically what means "grandmaster of demonic cultivation" the abbreviation for the novel title and the title of the animated series based on the novel (which is only up to about the yi city arc in release, but the drama follows the donghua very closely and I'm enjoying watching it a lot).
