today I was fussing around in illustrator, learning more stuff. yay! well, I learn by copying other artists, since I don't have much of a style of my own yet. ANYWAY, today I copied a really really talented illustrator who goes by 'Ben the Illustrator'. I am looking to copy more from him because OMG HIS STYLE. I want to roll around in it and stuff.

so anyway, today I was blatantly copying ben the illustrator in order to learn some line work, and I came up with this:



it is blatantly copied from this illustration by ben.

I actually kinda like my own better? the colors are slightly different (I like ben's orange better) but I like my birds more. :D

Oh, that's so pretty! And I like yours better, too, especially the birds. I like their colors more than the other birds' colors (in addition to liking the shapes better and thinking they're cuter!), so I don't miss the other orange a bit. ^_^ They're like cute little pink-breasted lavender robins! :D

I think using someone else's work as an inspiration is a great idea. You see art students in museums copying works of art all the time in order to learn.

well I'm almost entirely self-taught except for that one drawing class about fifteen years ago, and copying others seems to be the way to learn new techniques! :)
