I contacted another rabbi today about conversion. Waiting to hear back from him. I've waited 2 years to see if wanting to convert is just a passing thing or if the feelings would get stronger, and it appears that I'm in it for life.

I'm meeting with Andrew (the study partner) in person on Monday. He's coming down from Auburn, AL to visit me. He is in the early stages of becoming a rabbi. He's into the Renewal movement, which is feminist and queer friendly. I'm really looking forward to meeting him.

We can be conversion buddies!

Awesome! I've enjoyed following you along so far. How long have you been in conversion class?

Since April-ish? I started going regularly just after Purim.

Because of my daughter and the distance involved, I can't convert at a local synagogue so I'm looking into distance learning. There's a rabbi in Miami (also there is one in Chicago, but the rabbi in Miami is Reform while the one in Chicago is Conservative) who does long distance conversions and I'm hoping he takes me on.

I hope so too, it sounds really interesting to do it that way! One of the things I've been struggling with most is the cultural stuff, and it seems like doing it long-distance would affect that (although IDK if it would make it harder or easier or what). I look forward to your posting about it!

I think it will make it harder because I have no Jewish friends nearby to help me, and no Jewish community. The closest is an hour and more away, and I don't have regular transportation. In a year, I will be in different circumstances, but for now I have to make do.

I hope it brings you peace in your life. It sounds like meeting with Andrew is going to be a good thing. The renewal movement sounds very cool too.
