That's some pretty disgusting customer service fail, too. And how fucking hard is it to code a third option into the gender drop-down? Probably not as hard as 'answering' those support requests like asshats over and over.
What's the problem with having an Unspecified option in the first place? What about if I identify as female but would rather not have my gender posted on dA or LJ or DW because I don't think it's anyone's business/don't want their perception of my gender to colour how they interpret my work? Oh my god. Making simple things into big problems for no reason.
Ugh, how disgusting! Not that I'm really suprised I'm afraid, deviantart is financed by ads after all and gender specific ads is a huge thing I gather.
