hi there!

I feel bad for not updating, and the when I do all I talk is about my story. But OH, what a story it is. Like I've said many times before, it is the story of my HEART.

I doubt it will get a good reception. It is filled to the brim with original characters (which I've never really written before this). I did this for a reason: I wanted some bad things to happen to these people, and I wanted them to do bad things. I didn't feel comfortable, even with my story being wildly AU, in making these people characters we already know.

In the latest bit I've written, I've had the OFC Catherine attacked by a vampire. Rape is implied, but not named. She is scarred by the event, so much that she now wears a veil over her face. Bob of course still loves her. I want to do something awesome with her, other than her killing her attacker. I don't know WHAT yet, exactly.

The thing about Catherine that I haven't written about yet is that she doesn't want to be a vampire. She is content to be Bob's claimed human. I don't know what to do with her.

Another OFC in my story is Lilith. She's a young vampire and -- I've just written -- her beloved lover had just been killed (by the same vampire who attacked Catherine). I want to do something awesome with her, too.

It's HARD to do awesome things with these two characters because the story is all in Gerard's POV. If I write Catherine and Lilith having a conversation, it will have to be within Gerard's hearing.

Someone on DW's Create My Comm community said they wanted a comm for boyslash fics that pass the Bechdel test. I want my fic to pass the test, but staging a conversation between Catherine and Lilith might be tricky.

The other female character I created is Julia. She was the mother of the emperor Caracalla, another childe of Brian's. I don't really do much with her other than have her be crazy with grief over a dead childe (that Gerard kills) and then she does bad things to Frank. She's either dead or sleeping at this point -- I deliberately leave it open to interpretation.

What else, what else. Oh, Gerard. He's lost touch with his humanity, and at first I thought Frank would show him that humans can be good and wonderful, but then Frank leaves Gerard and I'm not sure anymore. :\

I really want to work on Gerard's development as a character. That is the whole point to the story now. The central theme is Gerard's evolution. It WAS going to be a story about getting back what you've lost, but now that's just incidental. The most important thing about my story is Gerard's changing from human to heartless vampire and back into a more grey character. By the time the story is over, I want him to be more like canon/fanon Gerard - someone who cares about humanity and loves without reservation. But getting there is going to take a long road.

Did I mention this is already 30k words long, and is going to be much, much more than that? Yeah. I've never written anything this long before, with this much plot. And some parts I'm writing are going to go through major rewrites where they are expanded. (or cut, I don't know but at this point it looks like they'll be expanded rather than cut)

My original idea for the story was simple. Michael (Gerard's brother in the 17th century) dies of plague, but his soul is reborn in Mikey in the 21st century, and Gerard finds him and woos him and they live happily ever after. The story now is much more complicated than that, and at 30k, I'm still stuck in the Regency era. Which, don't get me wrong! I love Regency stuff! But wow, do I have a long way to go, still.

So wish me luck or send me good thoughts. I am going to need it in order to finish this monster.

I don't have any ideas for Catherine (other than a cracked-out half-vampire-kid!fic that, these days, people would call a Twilight ripoff, even though a baby!Bryar would be made of awesome).

But Lilith... maybe her reaction to losing Cain, mourning as a human would and somehow reshaping her life to honor and/or remember her lost love, could serve as some sort of example or epiphany for Gerard?

I think when a story is populated by so many core bandom people, OCs that aren't Mary Sues will fly under everybody's radar. When we first met Catherine I did wonder whether Bob had gotten himself a lady IRL and was ready to be all excited for him, but I don't dislike her now that I'm 100% sure she's an original character.
