I have been doing this thing where instead of working on the WIPs I already have, I've been starting NEW stories. I've done it twice in the past week, and now I have two more WIPs. >:(
The bunny today demanded I outline it. which I did. and it turned into not one but TWO fics. (a fic and a sequel story) argh.
and now I have this great story outlined, but so little time! I like this story because in it, Derek is in danger of becoming an Omega. (not the A/B/O kind of Omega, but the TW kind). In some fic I've read recently, Isaac becomes close to Scott and decides he'd rather be in Scott's pack. I kind of took that idea and ran with it: what if everyone in Derek's pack split? Boyd and Erica have already left, Jackson doesn't want to be in the pack, Peter could easily disappear because there's no telling where his true loyalties lay. Isaac goes to Scott (as in previously mentioned fics) and Scott doesn't want to be in Derek's pack, either.
So the premise of my fic is that Derek is weakened and losing his hold on his control. Omegas in the TW 'verse have been shown to be unstable and dangerous, to put it mildly. And in my fic Stiles comes to the rescue, of course. :D
But I started thinking, you know, what if what Derek said in 2.09 (I think that's the ep) about Alphas becoming Omegas was foreshadowing? What if Derek really does become in danger? What if he loses it and becomes an Omega, or close to one? It would make for some fascinating watching, but I don't want it to happen because I honestly just want Derek to be happy and have a pack, you know? I AM INVESTED IN DEREK'S EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING, TENUOUS AS IT IS.
I'm sure you're wondering (ha, maybe not, but I need to SHARE) what Stiles does to help Derek. WELL. In my fic, he lets Derek bite him and becomes his beta, just so Derek won't go Omega and kill a bunch of people or get put down by hunters. I KNOW, this is slightly far-fetched, but c'mon, it's me we're talking about. All of my fic is far-fetched.
Anyway, Derek was never meant to become an Alpha, he sucks at being an Alpha, everyone leaves him, he's without a pack, Stiles figures out this is Bad News and there's some dub-con turning. I like this because it totally turns the turning trope on its ear.
In most werewolf!Stiles fics, Stiles is either turned by another Alpha or turned by Derek because he's about to die. In this fic, Derek is the one in danger, the reason why Stiles gets the bite. (the bite is a gift, this time to Derek)
AND I have not read one fic where Derek is in danger of becoming an Omega. And with Boyd and Erica leaving him and Derek's general Alpha-suckiness, I'm surprised at this.
The dub-con turning is not because Stiles might not want it, but because Derek might not. Derek's too out of it to realize what's going on.
