remember back at the end of july when a storm caused a power surge and we lost our microwave (among other things)? and you guys pitched in to help us out with our bills and stuff and I was able to buy a new microwave?

that microwave just quit on me. we've had it since the beginning of august. that's it. and it just QUIT. and mom can't find the receipt! it's got to be under warranty, right? there's got to be something I can do. I don't know! Our last microwave lasted 16 years and would still be going if not for that storm.

see if I'll ever buy Panasonic again. >:(

Do you remember where you bought it from? Some stores will take back products within the warranty period, even without a receipt. Usually for store credit, but at least it might get you a working microwave.

I know it's of no use now, but there are whole-house surge protectors that can help protect against lightning damage to your appliances. The only ones I know need to be installed at the electrical panel, but considering how much can be damaged by lightning, they can be worthwhile in the long run.
