I'm not actively doing anything about losing weight or eating better, but I ought to be doing both, and I'm happy to talk about them. A few years back I joined a gym, and I found that the time of day I went there helped tremendously with having no desire to eat crappy carb-laden food. I also am too intimately acquainted with trying to improve your food habits while other household members insist on eating what they always have, which I'm guessing is your situation for Meg if not your mom, too.
