recs: harry potter and sherlock

I finally got a pinboard account and can bookmark things easily now (delicious got confusing for me) and now I have recs!

HARRY POTTER:

In Time, Once Again by avioleta
Pairing: Harry/Snape
Rating: NC-17
Summary: After the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry uses a Time Turner in an attempt to rewrite history. However, something goes wrong, and he’s thrown back fourteen years into the past.
Reccer's Notes: I love time-travel fics and read a LOT of them, but this one stands out. The differences between the two timelines (characterizations!) are delicious.
WARNING: (as always, read the author's notes/warnings) Harry is under 18.

SHERLOCK (BBC)

If Watson Were a Poet, or 5 Sonnets John Wrote and One He Never Finished with Commentary by Sherlock Holmes by numberthescars
Pairing: Sherlock & John (gen)
Rating: NR
Author's Summary: what it says on the tin. Slightly cracky Shakespeare-Sherlock crossover (Shakeslock?).
Reccer's Notes: I originally read this on AO3, but I think the color formatting on LJ is better, so I'm linking to that. I think this piece is brilliant.

Drowning in Darkness by chappysmom
Pairing: none (gen)
Rating: G
Author's Summary: He couldn’t decide if it was a relief or a curse that he’d been left completely, absolutely alone. He didn’t exactly regret the complete lack of torture, but that would at least have given him something to fight. You couldn’t fight darkness with your fists, and no matter how strong your will-power, it could be beaten down by the constant monotony of nothingness. Nobody needed John Watson any more. He could dwindle away here in the dark as well as in the flat, anyway. Because really, what difference did it make? There was nobody to miss him. Not even him.
Reccer's Notes: Not as dark as the title or excerpt imply. Heartwarming ending.

The Fabric of Life by holyfant
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Rating: Explicit
Author's Summary: The fabric of life rearranges itself around the re-emergence of Sherlock.
Reccer's Notes: WOW. Cannot say enough good things about this fic. The OCs are brilliant, the emotional arc is powerful, and the writer's John and Sherlock characterizations are amazing. Especially John. I love John here, he's so heartbreakingly strong and resilient, even if he would scoff at such notions. (I rarely read WIPs, so I waited until this was done, and it took me allll day to read. I love long stories. :D)

If You Were Mine by Kryptaria & The_Kinky_Pet
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Rating: Explicit
Author's Summary: Sherlock and John meet as potential flatmates, just in time for John to get a more attractive offer as a partner in Irene Adler's business. This calls for discretion, so he reluctantly refuses Sherlock's offer to share a flat, but he can't quite get Sherlock Holmes out of his mind.

A series of suicides provides Sherlock with a much-needed distraction. A dead cabbie gives Sherlock the next clue in the game: the name Moriarty. And when John Watson comes back into the game, Sherlock can't help but wonder where to draw the line between coincidence and fact.
Reccer's Notes: This fic is complete, but it is the first of a proposed series and does not end happily. I'm not quite sure about Mycroft's characterization, but it makes for an interesting story. John is dominant in this fic (he REALLY is) and Sherlock wants what John wants. (and I want to read a million fics about this John taking care of Sherlock. GUH.) I am eagerly awaiting more in this 'verse, but if you can't stand unhappy, unresolved endings, you are better off waiting for this series to be finished.
